Manning Gorge

The walk to Upper Manning Gorge began by loading our gear (clothes, cameras, lunch etc.) into an esky and swimming across the Manning River pushing the esky to the other side. We unloaded and dressed then set off on a difficult rocky 2km walk ending with a steep descent into the gorge. We stopped at a sandy area at the bottom of the descent and had a swim before continuing a further 300m over boulders to the base of the waterfall where we enjoyed a picnic lunch and another swim in the pristine pool below the waterfall. After spending a couple of hours here we climbed out of the gorge and retraced our steps back to the Manning river, repacked the esky with our belongings and swam back to the starting point. We were really tired at the end of the day but it was well worth the effort.
Enroute to the gorge we made a contribution to this rock pile; anything to reduce the number of rocks underfoot.
Looking toward the waterfall at the bottom of the descent into the gorge. There was a large swimming hole here with lovely white sand to the waters edge, so we had a swim before proceeding.
A beautiful spot for a picnic lunch overlooking the Manning Gorge waterfall

This fruit tree was in abundance in the Kimberleys but birds did not seem to be attracted to it so we feel it may be poisonous
