Whilst at Coober Pedy we had a guided tour through Faye's Dugout which was dug by hand over a 10 year period beginning in 1960. The present owner of home told us the ground is extremely stable. Residents insert a couple of matchsticks into cracks in the ceiling of their dugouts, if a matchstick falls to the floor it is a warning that there has been ground movement. The matchsticks in this home have not moved over the past seventeen years.
The kitchen, and a photo showing the texture of the dugout walls, and the vent in the ceiling which rises to ground level where it is capped and vented to access fresh air.
Two bedrooms on split levels &
the indoor swimming pool which is actually at ground level
