After leaving Alice Springs we stopped for lunch at the historic town of Newcastle Waters a short drive off the Stuart Highway past wetlands alive with water birds.
We had lunch in Drover's Memorial Park (featuring a bronze statue of a drover).
The National Trust's Jones' Store, built in 1934, has been preserved as a museum
The corrugated iron and split bamboo verandah around the store looked wonderful and was very cooling.
