William Creek - Australia's smallest town
The famous William Creek Hotel.
We drove 51 km from William Creek toward Lake Eyre North. However the weather was overcast and we were concerned about the time, as the track was in bad condition and there was no way we wanted to chance having to drive back in the dark. We came to a junction where we chose a 1km drive to ABC Bay rather than risk another unpredictable 9km to Halligan Bay.

Approx halfway along the track we came across a monument erected in memory of Gabriele Groesmueller, a Austrian tourist who perished in 50 degree heat after her car was bogged at Halligan Bay in December 1998. She died trying to walk back to William Creek.
